Illegal whaling

Most people think of global issues as global warming, hunger, gang violence etc but one that is not talked about a lot is whaling. If American are free so should the whales be able to swim and live freely in the ocean.   At least every year whalers that go to Antarctica murder about 700 whales which is a danger to these mamals survial.  If you ever see a whale you would think it would be crazy to kill these magnificent animals.  Around the 1500′s the whalers started whaling and it is still going on today. You would think that no species could survive this long after being hunted so much. The way whales were killed in Antarctica is by harpooning the whales and then shooting it with a rifle 10 times. Imagine a harpoon going in your stomach and then having ten rifle rounds going into you. If we don’t stop killing whales the species will die out. Without whales the ocean life changes and slowly dies.  Other sea life like the sea lions will mutate and kill everything in the ocean.  Without whales the sea life will not be balanced. With all of these whaling happenings the oceans will die and then we will die.  It is important for people to know about whaling so they can stand up against this illegal action.

Even though there are people that are trying to stop whaling such as Green Peace and a less famous organization Sea Shepherd whaling still continues everywhere where there are whales. I got interested in this cause from watching a video that showed a whale being killed.  The government should actually be paying more attention to these illegal actions of killing whales and take a stronger stand against the whalers.  If the government would stick to the laws already passed and not let others kill whales we could protect these special creatures.  In my opinion Sea Shepherd is more effective at stopping whaling because they stopped the Japanese from whaling in Antarctica (which the Japanese have been doing for over 40 years).

 Ways to Stop Whaling:

  • Form groups to protect whales
  • Inform governments about this illegal action and stay there until the government officials agree to enforce laws.
  • Support or join the ant whaling groups.
